SOUTHERN CIRCUIT
GOMBE NATIONAL PARK
AREA:
It covers an area of 52km, situated 16km north of
Kigoma town in Western Tanzania.
PRINCIPAL FEATURES: Gombe is a narrow strip on a mountainous
country bounded to the east by the crest of the Rift
valleys escarpment and by Lake Tanganyika to the West.
It is a park without roads where you can walk and
experience nature with your all senses.
WILDLIFE:
Chimpanzee, Baboons, Blue monkeys, Red tailed monkeys,
and Red colobus monkeys.
ACCOMODATION:
Hostel/Campsites within the park and Hotels in Kigoma
town.
KATAVI
NATIONAL PARK
AREA:
It covers an area of 2253km, located in Mpanda District,
Rukwa region about 40km south east of Mpanda town.
PRINCIPAL FEATURES: Lake Chada, (Rich in birdlife,
and high population density of crocodiles.) Lake Katavi
(Characterized by its vast short grass flood plain
in the north), Katuma River (attracts great number
of hippos during the dry season)
WILDLIFE:
Zebras, sable and roan antelopes, Enlands, Leopards
Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions +Many more.
BIRDS:
Many birds’ species found in Lake Chada and
over parts in.
ACCOMODATION: Rest house/Campsites within the park
Hotel (Hippo garden near Katavi Headquarters.)
MAHALE MOUNTAINS
NATIONAL PARK
AREA:
It covers 1577km, located about 120km South of Kigoma
Peninsula that cuts into Lake Tanganyika.
PRINCIPAL FEATURES: Mahale Mountains
(Highest peak being 2462m above sea level), Miombo
woodlands.
WILDLIFE:
Elephant, Warthogs, Giraffes, Zebras, Roan antelopes,
Buffaloes, Hyenas, Wild dogs, and more than 700 chimpanzees
in about 15 communities.
ACCOMODATION:
Guest house/Luxury tented camp, is only opened during
the dry season (May to October).
